Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is ATIP?

The Asian Technology Information Program (ATIP) is a US non-profit company. The organization acts as a bridge between Asian and Western technologists and managers.

2. What does ATIP do?

ATIP tracks and reports on technology trends and developments throughout Asia. All reporting is in standard American Business English.

ATIP interviews key technologists and managers throughout Asia. We then write detailed reports on our findings and deliver these reports to our customers via e-mail or by downloading from our website.

We regularly update our customers and sponsors by delivering presentations in person or via teleconference.

3. What are ATIP’s products and services?

ATIP’s business model is based on two sources of revenue: 1) Sponsored research and 2) Subscriptions to our website.

3.1. Sponsored research

ATIP sponsors task us with specific activities for a period of time, typically one year. Such tasks may include a broad overview of science and technology throughout Asia. Often, the tasks are more specific, such as providing a directory of all SOI activities in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

In the course of conducting our sponsored research, the information we gather, assess, and analyze is archived on our secure website. These documents are searchable by keyword.

3.2. Subscriptions

Customers can purchase access to all - or parts - of the website via subscriptions. ATIP’s primary products are the documents that are available on the website, which are detailed below:

ATIP Reports
This ‘flagship’ product is a detailed report, averaging about 15 pages, and is written by an ATIP analyst on a specific topic or event, and includes significant analysis and comparative assessment. We produce at least 50 ATIP Reports annually. Reports span a very broad range of both technology topics and geographic coverage.

Reports are available by subscription. A subscription includes a password to the ATIP web site where current and more than 1,300 back reports are archived.

New ATIP reports cost $500 for the first year after publication. Annual subscribers receive all reports published during the year.

ATIP Digests
Each Digest issue (~10 pages) contains a collection of short timely articles selected by ATIP analysts as being particularly relevant to the Digest subject. Analysis is included. Most of our Digests appear monthly and are a great way to keep up with rapidly changing Asian developments on a specific topic.

Each individual Digest is available by subscription. A subscription costs US$250 annually per Digest.

Some examples of the Asian Science & Technology (S&T) Digests we publish are:

· China S&T News Digest Monthly

· Korea S&T News Digest Monthly

· Malaysia S&T News Digest Monthly

· Asian Nanotechnology Digest Monthly

· Japan/Asia HPC Digest Monthly

· Asian QuIST Digest Every 2 Months

· Asian Palm Power Digest Quarterly

ATIP Scoops
These documents are based on interviews with key technologists and managers in Asia. The interview is summarized, with analysis, in 4-5 pages, and a photo of the interviewee is included when possible. New Scoops are available individually for $200 each.

A-Tips Newsfeeds
A-Tips are 1- or 2-page news items that we have reviewed for relevance and edited for clarity. Often, comments are provided by an ATIP Technology Analyst to put the news item in perspective.

ATIP Services
ATIP’s primary consulting services are based on our vast human network of contacts throughout Asia. We assist Western organizations in meeting the right people in Asia. Typically, these types of services are included in our sponsored research packages.

As an example, ATIP conducts regular ‘Technology Tours’ where we escort a group of technologists/managers on a tour of the leading organizations in Asia. We begin such a tour with a briefing by ATIP’s analysts to familiarize the group the trends in Asia; then, we introduce the group to the key people and laboratories throughout the region.

In addition to standard services, ATIP provides a wide range of custom services. Examples include the following:

  • Preparing briefings on specific topics for individual customers
  • Due diligence
  • Representing companies at Asian trade shows and exhibitions
  • Foreign staff selection and screening
  • Organizing workshops
  • Prototype procurement
  • Custom research and reporting on new & existing companies and topics

Prices depend upon time, travel, etc., but are extremely competitive – please contact us for further information.

4. What countries does ATIP operate in?

ATIP’s headquarters is in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the USA. We maintain a liaison office in Washington, DC.

ATIP’s primary office in Asia is Tokyo, Japan. We also have a branch office in Beijing, China, and a representative office in Suwon, Korea.

We maintain full- and part-time contractors and consultants in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

5. How do I become a subscriber?

ATIP offers various plans to become a subscriber. The range of subscriptions varies from single-user licenses to global corporate licenses.

We offer subscriptions that grant access to:

  1. All of ATIP’s information via a Full Subscription
  2. Only countries of interest
  3. Only technologies of interest

Customers who are interested in keeping up-to-date on all Asian S&T information choose the Full Subscription.

Some customers are interested only in one country; Japan, for example. A Japan Country Subscription costs $2,000 per year and provides all ATIP documents (Reports, Digests, Scoops, A-Tips) that are based upon Japan.

Other customers are interested only in certain technologies, regardless of the country from which the information originates. Such customers typically purchase a Technology Subscription for $2,000 per year, which provides access to any document based on the technology in question. Currently, ATIP offers Technology Subscriptions in:

  • HPC
  • Nano/MEMS
  • Palm Power
  • QuIST

Please see our price list, or contact ATIP for more information on our subscriptions.

6. What does a subscription cost?

Because ATIP is a US-registered non-profit company, we offer subscriptions at ½ price to US-based organizations. Likewise, since we operate extensively in Japan, Korea, and China, we offer substantial discounts to organizations in those countries.

We offer deep discounts to academic users with a '.edu' e-mail address.

Please see our price for more details. Contact ATIP if you have any questions, or if you would like to customize a subscription based on your specific needs.

How do I become a sponsor?

Please contact ATIP to discuss your requirements further. We will be pleased to meet with you and tailor a program that satisfies your specific needs.
